Speed Freak

Another great Fleur Beale book for boys. This time it's 15 year old Archie, the kart racer and speed freak, who has to win the national challenge series and win a place racing in Europe.

Lots of detail to give the reader an understanding of kart racing, a bit too much for me. Took a while for the story to get interesting, about a third of the way in it draws the reader in.

I'm reading all the finalists for the NZ Post Children's Book Awards but I was putting this one off a bit because the subject matter didn't interest me. So when I finally started reading I was feeling a little negative about it.
